MATARIKI DUSK TRAIN & HĀKARI (FEAST)

The Bay of Islands Vintage Railway are proud to present a special Matariki themed train experience!

Celebrate Matariki and the dawning of the Māori New Year with our special dusk train and Matariki Hākari (The hākari is a buffet feast that will be held after the journey).

Join us for a wonderful evening celebrating the cultural significance, beauty and magic of the stars and our intentions for the New Year. 

This experience starts with a peaceful two-half hour scenic rail journey along the beautiful Taumarere River.  We will stop for cultural kōrero and connection to the year passed and the future on the horizon.  We will take time to listen to nature and reconnect within.  Kōrero lead by Ngati Hine kaumatua and stories and songs shared. The experience wrapped up with a shared hākari feast (buffet) under lights and beside the open fire.
