In 2022 Matariki will be officially recognised as a public holiday on Friday 24 June.

Matariki Pēwhairangi Bay of Islands is packed with events to feed your mind, body, and soul!

Story-telling, cultural experiences, Matariki-inspired feasts, artisan markets, music, family fun, and some of the best star-gazing opportunities in the land. There is a full programme of Matariki events for everyone across Paihia, Kerikeri, Russell, and beyond.

You could be titiro ki ngā whetu, stargazing on the beautiful waters of Te Pēwhairangi, discovering and tasting our delicious local kai produce, and listening to inspiring kōrero paki – storytellers, all in one day.

The Matariki Puanga event runs over 6 weeks in locations around the Bay of Islands, Taitokerau, Aotearoa. 

Come and be part of our special pakiwaitara – story, which has now become a public holiday on Friday 24th Pipiri 2022, which also happens to be our magical main Matariki Puanga event at the Paihia Village Green. Bring the whole whanau and enjoy music, food, crafts and a fantastic Fireworks Display to finish the night under the stars.
